Children & Perservatives and Food dyes

It is a 'normal' thing that food today contains substances to make it last longer, look fresh and delicious, even if it has been in a plastic package for a few months.


In a world where this is normal, you almost stop thinking about it as something strange. But it's very strange. We add artificial substances to the food so that it can stay on the store shelf for months - sometimes years! So a strawberry drink is strong pink and not a pale weak pink. We have ice cream and sweets with so much blue color that tongues and teeth turn completely blue from it - to the delight of the children.


The problem is that these artificial. It puts a strain on the liver, kidneys, intestines and brain. As such, they are not long-term tested on humans.


It started in the 1950s and we haven't actually had them for more than about 70 years. So you haven't actually had them around for anything longer than the equivalent of a human's lifetime.


If you look at society, we currently have a multitude of diseases and lifestyle diseases that we have not seen before. Cancer in many versions, babies and children who can develop cancer early on, we have diagnoses of 'mental disorders' on little ones - already as babies! More and more young people are coming on psychiatric medication at a frighteningly early age.


I as a Naturopath can't help but get my attentionon our artificial and nutrient-poor diet, which not only lacks nutrition - but which 'at the same time' burdens our body and organs with chemicals. This combination equals sickness and 'disorders'. Because how can you feel good with such a food culture.


In my research and education within Child Health, I have come across research where in the USA food colorings have been added in regulated dosages to observe children's behaviour. And even children without diagnoses started behaving either more aggressively, becoming worse at concentrating, worse at reading and writing. Regression. By putting children on diets without artificial colours, sweeteners and preservatives, they have experienced changes after only 2 weeks, where the child felt better, was calmer, could read better and write better! What?! It is absolutely incredible that it can make a change in just 2 weeks.


So in my program for children and parents, a dietary change with the exclusion of artificial substances is a very important part.


In addition to that, there is also individual intolerances that must be checked and taken into account. More on that in the next article... 😊
